Early woes of the 2015 fantasy football season

Well, week one is in the books and I’m already feeling the familiar sting of regret when thinking what could have been.

If I could go back a few weeks to that draft night, would I have done anything different?

One of the leagues that I play in is a keeper league (2 players). I chose to keep CJ Anderson and Odell Beckham Jr.

This is all fine and good but the problem is, as soon as last season ended, I had decided to keep Rob Gronkowski along with OBJ.  Then all of a sudden, two days before I had to commit to my keepers, after listening to enough podcasts I decided to keep CJ over Gronkowski. The real frustrating part is looking back, I think I might have been able to get CJ with my first pick had I stuck with my original plan.

As everyone who has regularly played fantasy sports knows, it’s not always about the best draft. Players get injured. Players get new opportunities etc. I’ve also come to the conclusion that fantasy football is fifty percent luck fifty percent skill.

You’ve got to learn to enjoy the season with all it’s roller coaster rides. I’ve made some great trades and some absolute embarrassing ones. I always enjoy the process of negotiating a really great deal.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is this,

1-Go with your gut. Especially when you’ve done the research. DON’T OVERTHINK THINGS!

2-As down as I’m feeling after a terrible showing in week one, last year I started the season with a 1-6 record before everything came together and I went from a laughing stock to an amazing team on my way to win the championship. And that was with only two significant moves.

3-It’s just a game. Relax. Don’t let it take over your Sunday and ruin your family time.

Below is my team from last year of which I could choose any two players to keep!

  1. Nice post.

This’s my first year doing Fantasy Football- got into my office’s league. Our league might be called Monday Morning Tears, but the name sure doesn’t fit for this newbie so far. Travis Kelce, Chris Ivory, & the Panthers D/ST (streamed) all blew up for me to the tune of 128 total points and a 60 point margin that I wish I could spread out, lol. Now I’m bringing Ronnie Hillman up to start as my flex in week two. I guess we’ll see if it’s beginner’s luck or if I really stumbled on some hidden gems.

  2. Sounds like an awesome team. If you get the time, I’d love to see the rest of your team.
I know what you mean about wanting to spread the score out. I’ve been there many times but keep in mind that overall points can and often do come in to play at the end of the season. Good luck the rest of the way!

    1. Here’s my team: (& my current lineup for Week 3)
      QB: Ryan Tannehill, Mia
      RB: Jeremy Hill, Cin
      RB: Chris Ivory, NYJ
      WR: Antonio Brown, Pit
      WR: Julian Edelman, NE
      TE: Travis Kelce, KC
      FLEX: Doug Baldwin, Sea
      D/ST: Denver Broncos, Den
      K: Josh Brown, Wsh
      Bench:
      QB: Philip Rivers, SD
      RB: Lamar Miller, Mia
      RB: Ronnie Hillman, Den
      RB: Bilal Powell, NYJ
      WR: Eric Decker, NYJ
      WR: Pierre Garcon, Wsh
      TE: Antonion Gates, SD (Suspended)

My flex and RB setup may change depending on injury reports this week. Josh Brown is a waiver wire pickup from this morning, replacing Adam Vinatieri who’s gotten few opportunities so far but has done nothing with the ones he did get.
